The following morning, Ralph and Piggy discuss what they have done. Jack’s hunters attack them and their few followers and steal Piggy’s glasses in the process. Ralph’s group travels to Jack’s stronghold in an attempt to make Jack see reason, but Jack orders Sam and Eric tied up and fights with Ralph. In the ensuing battle, one boy, Roger, rolls a boulder down the mountain, killing Piggy and shattering the conch shell. Ralph barely manages to escape a torrent of spears.
Ralph hides for the rest of the night and the following day, while the others hunt him like an animal. Jack has the other boys ignite the forest in order to smoke Ralph out of his hiding place. Ralph stays in the forest, where he discovers and destroys the sow’s head, but eventually, he is forced out onto the beach, where he knows the other boys will soon arrive to kill him. Ralph collapses in exhaustion, but when he looks up, he sees a British naval officer standing over him. The officer’s ship noticed the fire raging in the jungle. The other boys reach the beach and stop in their tracks at the sight of the officer. Amazed at the spectacle of this group of bloodthirsty, savage children, the officer asks Ralph to explain. Ralph is overwhelmed by the knowledge that he is safe but, thinking about what has happened on the island, he begins to weep. The other boys begin to sob as well. The officer turns his back so that the boys may regain their composure.

The hunters pursue. Ralph notices the island has caught fire. The hunters chase Ralph down to the beach where he finds a naval officer there to rescue them.

Not long after the meeting, some military planes engage in a battle high above the island. The boys, asleep below, do not notice the flashing lights and explosions in the clouds. A parachutist drifts to earth on the signal-fire mountain, dead. Sam and Eric, the twins responsible for watching the fire at night, are asleep and do not see the parachutist land. When the twins wake up, they see the enormous silhouette of his parachute and hear the strange flapping noises it makes. Thinking the island beast is at hand, they rush back to the camp in terror and report that the beast has attacked them.
The boys organize a hunting expedition to search for the monster. Jack and Ralph, who are increasingly at odds, travel up the mountain. They see the silhouette of the parachute from a distance and think that it looks like a huge, deformed ape. The group holds a meeting at which Jack and Ralph tell the others of the sighting. Jack says that Ralph is a coward and that he should be removed from office, but the other boys refuse to vote Ralph out of power. Jack angrily runs away down the beach, calling all the hunters to join him. Ralph rallies the remaining boys to build a new signal fire, this time on the beach rather than on the mountain. They obey, but before they have finished the task, most of them have slipped away to join Jack.
Jack declares himself the leader of the new tribe of hunters and organizes a hunt and a violent, ritual slaughter of a sow to solemnize the occasion. The hunters then decapitate the sow and place its head on a sharpened stake in the jungle as an offering to the beast. Later, encountering the bloody, fly-covered head, Simon has a terrible vision, during which it seems to him that the head is speaking. The voice, which he imagines as belonging to the Lord of the Flies, says that Simon will never escape him, for he exists within all men. Simon faints. When he wakes up, he goes to the mountain, where he sees the dead parachutist. Understanding then that the beast does not exist externally but rather within each individual boy, Simon travels to the beach to tell the others what he has seen. But the others are in the midst of a chaotic revelry—even Ralph and Piggy have joined Jack’s feast—and when they see Simon’s shadowy figure emerge from the jungle, they fall upon him and kill him with their bare hands and teeth.

What Do I Think of Chapter 10 ?????
Here they are dealing with the death and how they did it. Nasty!?!?!?! But Jack does not care he still is a dick like ever and also goes and steels what he could have just asked for. If you ask me he is becoming a little Hitler. Just saying. lol. Then they also steel Piggys glasses and if you remember he is blind as a bat. I NEED TO KEEP GOING ITS SO GOOD, ON TO THE NEXT!!!!
"Lord of the Flies" Chapter 10
Now in chapter 10, Ralph, Piggy and Samneric are the only ones left in the original tribe. Ralph and Piggy express their horror over witnessing/participating in Simon's murder. Jack and his crew have taken up residence at the fort. Roger approaches and is told of one of the boys (Wilfred) being tied up and whipped. Jack and his tribe have been transformed into savages. They plot to steal fire. They raid Ralph and Piggy's camp and steal Piggy's glasses.
What Do I Think of Chapter 9 ?????
I KNEW IT. HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!! Simon is dead but omg they ripped him apart with they like teeth and hand. They are animals! I remember that they said at the start of the book they were gentlemen. HA ya right. They one person that was a man and found out what the monster was was killed cause they thought he was the monster. Cant stop, On to the next!
"Lord of the Flies" Chapter 9
In this 9th chapter, Simon passes out and wakes up. He explores, discovers the truth about the beast, and heads immediately to the beach to tell the others. Meanwhile, all the boys have left the original camp to join Jack's hunters. Even Ralph and Piggy go. There's a dispute. It rains. Jack and his hunters begin their chant. Simon appears from the forest. They kill him. The dead parachutist is driven by the wind, over the boys, and out to sea. After the storm ceases, the boys gather around dead Simon as his body is washed out to sea.
What Do I Think of Chapter 8 ?????
In chapter 8, here you now see Jack is talking over and Ralph really cant stop it. the boys will follow who they think wont hurt them. Its a fear thing. I get the feeling that Simon will die. He is sitting alone by the monster bate and the boys might think he is the monster it is just a feeling I have. I can see that the boys are used to living on the island and are doing it well. They are getting pigs and food its just an all around good time. But that might get to there heads. IDK, On to the next!
"Lord of the Flies" Chapter 8
In chapter 8 Jack calls a meeting, insults Ralph, and asks for Ralph to no longer be chief. Nobody else agrees. Jack, embarrassed, leaves the tribe and goes into the forest. The assembly continues. Simon suggests they go up the mountain. Piggy suggests they build the fire on the beach since the beast is on the mountain. The boys gather wood. The littluns sing and dance. Roger, Bill, Maurice, and other biguns escape into the woods, following Jack. Simon has also disappeared into his secret spot. The hunters track down a pig and kill it. They chop off its head and offer it to the beast as a sacrifice. Flies swarm. The hunters race back to the beach to steal fire. Simon arrives at the pig's head after the hunters have left. He imagines the pig's head is speaking to him. The pig's head tells Simon he can't escape. Jack's hunters raid Ralph's camp for fire and invite the others.
What Do I Think of Chapter 7 ?????
Chapter 7
I liked this chapter because I really is making me feel that the boys will start fighting even more. I know that in the towns around were I live band the book in the high schools cause kids kill kids SoOoOoOo I am thinking that soon some kids will fight and jack will kill someone. Just my thought. I think that Ralph is growing closer to Piggy cause the other boys are fighting and going after Ralph. When the boys see the dead guy it shows that they are still kids and they need grown ups to debunk the things that go bump in the night. On to the next!!!!!!

"Lord of the Flies" Chapter 7
Chapter 7
In chapter 7 the boys go to the mountain along the shore on the other side of the island. When they stop to eat some fruit, Ralph wines on his hair and he wants a soapy bath, a haircut, a toothbrush. He realizes that the boys' dirt has become normal for them. At one point Ralph looks out to the sea and has a sense that they are lost and remote than he had thought previously. Simon seems to know what he's thinking and tells Ralph that he believes he WILL be saved. He does not suggest that all the boys or even he will be saved. The boys discover poop of a pig. The pig gets away but not without being hit by Ralph. His success at hitting the pig fills Ralph with pride about the hunt. . Robert pretends to be the pig. It gets out of hand and turn violent. Robert is terrified but it ends before he gets seriously hurt. They talk about doing it to a littlnu. It is late in the day and they will not get back to the camp until after night. Simon will go through the jungle on his own to the side of the island where Piggy and the littluns are. The rest of the boys keep going to get up the mountain. Jack evidently sees the dead pilot in the darkness but does not know what it is. Freaked out, he comes back to the others and tells them he's seen something. Ralph goes forward to inspect, still not believing that there is a beast. In the darkness Ralph too sees the pilot and is unable to recognize the figure for what it is. The boys flee the mountain and race back to the camp.
Main Character List And Info
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
THIS IS NOT MY Character List
OWNED BY SPARKNOTES
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ralph - The novel’s protagonist, the twelve-year-old English boy who is elected leader of the group of boys marooned on the island. Ralph attempts to coordinate the boys’ efforts to build a miniature civilization on the island until they can be rescued. Ralph represents human beings’ civilizing instinct, as opposed to the savage instinct that Jack embodies.
Jack - The novel’s antagonist, one of the older boys stranded on the island. Jack becomes the leader of the hunters but longs for total power and becomes increasingly wild, barbaric, and cruel as the novel progresses. Jack, adept at manipulating the other boys, represents the instinct of savagery within human beings, as opposed to the civilizing instinct Ralph represents.
Simon - A shy, sensitive boy in the group. Simon, in some ways the only naturally “good” character on the island, behaves kindly toward the younger boys and is willing to work for the good of their community. Moreover, because his motivation is rooted in his deep feeling of connectedness to nature, Simon is the only character whose sense of morality does not seem to have been imposed by society. Simon represents a kind of natural goodness, as opposed to the unbridled evil of Jack and the imposed morality of civilization represented by Ralph and Piggy.
Piggy - Ralph’s “lieutenant.” A whiny, intellectual boy, Piggy’s inventiveness frequently leads to innovation, such as the makeshift sundial that the boys use to tell time. Piggy represents the scientific, rational side of civilization.
Roger - Jack’s “lieutenant.” A sadistic, cruel older boy who brutalizes the littluns and eventually murders Piggy by rolling a boulder onto him.
Sam and Eric - A pair of twins closely allied with Ralph. Sam and Eric are always together, and the other boys often treat them as a single entity, calling them “Samneric.” The easily excitable Sam and Eric are part of the group known as the “bigguns.” At the end of the novel, they fall victim to Jack’s manipulation and coercion.
The Lord of the Flies - The name given to the sow’s head that Jack’s gang impales on a stake and erects in the forest as an offering to the “beast.” The Lord of the Flies comes to symbolize the primordial instincts of power and cruelty that take control of Jack’s tribe.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------In the midst of a raging war, a plane evacuating a group of schoolboys from Britain is shot down over a deserted tropical island. Two of the boys, Ralph and Piggy, discover a conch shell on the beach, and Piggy realizes it could be used as a horn to summon the other boys. Once assembled, the boys set about electing a leader and devising a way to be rescued. They choose Ralph as their leader, and Ralph appoints another boy, Jack, to be in charge of the boys who will hunt food for the entire group.
Ralph, Jack, and another boy, Simon, set off on an expedition to explore the island. When they return, Ralph declares that they must light a signal fire to attract the attention of passing ships. The boys succeed in igniting some dead wood by focusing sunlight through the lenses of Piggy’s eyeglasses. However, the boys pay more attention to playing than to monitoring the fire, and the flames quickly engulf the forest. A large swath of dead wood burns out of control, and one of the youngest boys in the group disappears, presumably having burned to death.
At first, the boys enjoy their life without grown-ups and spend much of their time splashing in the water and playing games. Ralph, however, complains that they should be maintaining the signal fire and building huts for shelter. The hunters fail in their attempt to catch a wild pig, but their leader, Jack, becomes increasingly preoccupied with the act of hunting.
When a ship passes by on the horizon one day, Ralph and Piggy notice, to their horror, that the signal fire—which had been the hunters’ responsibility to maintain—has burned out. Furious, Ralph accosts Jack, but the hunter has just returned with his first kill, and all the hunters seem gripped with a strange frenzy, reenacting the chase in a kind of wild dance. Piggy criticizes Jack, who hits Piggy across the face. Ralph blows the conch shell and reprimands the boys in a speech intended to restore order. At the meeting, it quickly becomes clear that some of the boys have started to become afraid. The littlest boys, known as “littluns,” have been troubled by nightmares from the beginning, and more and more boys now believe that there is some sort of beast or monster lurking on the island. The older boys try to convince the others at the meeting to think rationally, asking where such a monster could possibly hide during the daytime. One of the littluns suggests that it hides in the sea—a proposition that terrifies the entire group.

What Do I Think Of Chapter 5 ?????
In this part of the book you can really see the boys are braking out of there shells and changing, some for the better some for the worse. I now know that Jack is going to be an ass the whole time. And I feel that Piggy and Ralph are becoming more of friends. This is only cause he wants friends lol. The rules that were put in place are not working and if I was an outsider I would not be about to believe this. I hope its not up to them to make a now world ha-ha. We are left with a cliff hanger at the end were a littlun is crying. What do you think is might be? I think that it might be an animal or something. We will have to see. On to the next!
"Lord of the Flies" Chapter 5
Chapter 5
At the start of the chapter Ralph is getting mad with his hair and goes into detail about why. Then he calls a meeting blowing the conch. The boys all come to the beach. He called this meeting because he is sick of the boys not doing there jobs. People are not even using the bathroom place. The littluns are all having more nightmares because of the beasts. Jake said if there is a beast he will kill it. One of the little boys said that he say a beast. The boys pressed him to tell were this is. And ware would it be in the day time. Jake bully's Piggy and then runs away, following him were the boys in his group. Just left is Ralph, Piggy, and Simon. Ralph tells them he might give up power. But they tell him not to and that the boys need his guidance. As the boy fall to sleep the faint noise of a littlun crying on the beach happens.
What Do I Think Of Chapter 4 ?????
In chapter 4 i feel the fighting will only get worse. Jack is pissing me off, he thinks that he is king and no one else maters. I think that Ralph is getting closer to Piggy I see that they will become good friends and stick together. The good thing is that they got a pig to eat. I wanted to smack Jack when i found out the fire went out and the ship was there. that might be there only way out. Over all I love this book. On to the next!!!!
"Lord of the Flies" Chapter 4
Chapter 4
As the days go on the kids get more and more use to the life. In the morning the boys are all happy and messing around but by noon the sun is on full and it so hot most of the boys just sleep. The boys are starting to see images in the water freaking them out. Piggy shuts down the fear by saying its just the sun. The little kids sit all day and eat fruit witch is making them sick. They live away from the bigger boys but they still are hazed by them. Stones and rocks are thrown at them. Jake is still trying to kill a pig. And then Ralph and Piggy see a Ship. But the fire is out! When the hunters get back Ralph try's to yell at them because it was there job to watch the fire. But they killed a pig so they did not hear him. Jack and Ralph fight. Ralph use Piggy's glasses to light the fire. Ralph calls a meeting.

What Do I Think of Chapter 3 ?????
After this Chapter I feel that the fighting will soon start. This Jack seems to be like a Hitler kid demanding and not give back. I saw Simon's soft side and i feel this will be his down fall. I did not get much more out of this one. On to the next!
"Lord of the Flies" Chapter 3
Chapter 3
At the start of the chapter Jack is trying to kill a pig to eat. When he is doing this two other boys are building beach homes for the kids so the night will not be soo freaky. Ralph gets pissed (seems to happen a lot) because the little boys are not helping out they are just playing around. He said that the kids need to get off there high horse. But on a softer note he worry's that a lot of the boys are having nightmares. Simon helps the littluns get fruit. He loves the view and how beautiful it is.

What Do I Think of Chapter 2 ????
This part of the book you can tell they are still getting use to being alone and on there own. I will say I think that Ralph is liking this, he can take control and lead, he has a lot of people looking up to him. Also I can tell there will be trouble coming. I'm guessing that the kids will be split kind of like in "Animal Farm." They might not know who to follow. There are 2 types of kids ones that are wanting rules and a leader and ones that want nothing they want to do what they want. When they started the fire they really found out who to go to for ideas lol I will say that. Then the boy went missing, if you ask me i think he died in the fire just makes sense its at the same time. But at the end of the Chapter you could see they may be kids but they will honor there own. On to chapter 3
"Lord of the Flies" Chapter 2
Chapter 2
They came back from the mountain. They is Ralph, Piggy, Jack, and Simon. Ralph sounds a conch and calls a meeting. The boys Group together at the trees around a clearing. They will now call this the platform. Ralph tells them about the hike. He talks about the pigs at the island and how he WILL kill one next time. He try's to be cool by jamming his knife into a tree. Ralph made rules needing to be followed. A little boy came up to him, this boy has a weird birthmark on his face, telling him about his fear of something called "beastie" and "snake things". Ralph tells him that this is not real and if it is he will kill it. So latter they start a fire with Piggy's glasses. Ralph demands that they keep the fire always lit. In the end they found that the boy is missing. for the first time they are acting like grownups, they have a moment of silence.
What Do I Think of Chapter 1 ?????
I thought that the chapter was okay. The book is defiantly an easy read and addictive I sat down in my last hour class thinking I was going to just read what was needed but I found myself reading till chapter 3 O.M.G. I got the feeling that Piggy was really happy to get a new friend BUT I don't think that Ralph really liked him he just seemed like Piggy was being a pest and he wanted nothing to do with him. It really showed this when Piggy asked his name but Ralph did not ask it back. Sad Face. but over all Chapter 1 was good. I think that soon to come they will get a pig cause he said "next time...
"Lord of the Flies" Chapter 1
Chapter 1
Piggy and Ralph meet up with each other after escaping from the down plane. They are in a large untouched jungle. A war is going on in the outside world and every one will be isolated from it and put into their own world. Piggy sees a conch shell, and tells Ralph how to use it to make a noise. Ralph trys, and calls all of the other boys on the island who crashed with the plane. Jack, Simon, Sam and Eric, and many other characters join in an assembly. Rules are set, and Ralph is to be chief. There is no one else on the island but the young boys, so Jack decides to take kids out to hunt for pigs, although he can't/couldn't kill a small pig with his knife. "next time..."
